Yes. I forgot to write this post yesterday.
Imagine putting up the Christmas tree (Don’t judge. It’s after Thanksgiving), turning on a movie and crashing on the couch with a comfortable blanket. To make a long story short, I fell asleep and woke up at 1 a.m. and realized it was time for bed.
Anyway, let’s get back on track and talk about what I think is the most pointless day out of the year (other than Columbus Day).
What is it about Black Friday that brings out the worst in some people?
Is it getting the best price possible? Competition? Or just good ol’ fashion insanity?
Black Friday is a day for big box corporations put out enough sale to allow them to creep back up in the black, or a financial term used to describe when a company is profitable.
The best explaination, and history, of Black Friday can be found at Investopedia.
For me, the day of the best deal ruins the spirit of giving during the holidays. It also shows a scary side of modern society.
Instead of standing in line waiting for that great deal on a TV or that new video game, that time can be spent volunteering or lending a helping hand to someone in need.
Do something productive.
Why waste 24 to 48 hour of life standing in line when there’s somebody else out there that’s working two or three jobs just to put food on the table? Or someone who has to spend some nights at the soup kitchen getting dinner with their children?
Why feed into a marketing scheme that clearly benefits multi-billion dollar corporations?
Agree or disagree all you want, but when I see people behave erratically to get their hands on that TV, I shake my head in disgust.
I don’t mind the sales, but why risk losing sight of humanity over a great sale?
Let it brew.
I’ll check back in with you later. I have another post to write.
Cheers!
